From hockey to boxing, cricket and athletics, several sports-based movies have been hitting the theaters frequently. Gowtham Tinnanuri also accepted the challenge and came up with Jersey in which Natural Star Nani and Shraddha Srinath are playing the lead roles.
Story: Arjun (Nani) is a 36 year old, ex-Ranji best batsman, who is living with his wife Sarah (Shraddha Srinath) and son. But he is not happy in his life. What went wrong? Why did Arjun’s career fail to take off? And What happens when he decides to make it to the Indian cricket team despite his age?
- Shraddha Srinth
- Little bit slow
Performance: Nani has delivered his career’s best performance. He looks good in the scenes in which he picks up cricketers’ body language with ease. Though Nani shines in all the scenes that require him to play cricket but the scenes between him and his son are the ones that steal the viewers’ s heart. Ronit Kamra as 7 years old son who sees his father as nothing less than a superhero performs well. Shraddha Srinath looks good. Her chemistry with Nani is highlighted. Rao Ramesh as a lawyer is ok. Sampath Raj as a coach is fine. Shishir Sharma is convincing as Mumbai coach. All other actors are cast well.
Technical: The Songs scored by Anirudh Ravichander are excellent. The background music is also excellent and enhances the emotions. Cinematography by Sanu John Varughese is equally brilliant. He has captured emotions of actors well. The Dialogues are meaningful and are emotionally moving. Editing by Navin Nooli is ok. Art director Avinash Kolla brings back the vintage 80’s. Production standards by Sithara Entertainments are Very Good.
Analysis: Jersey is all about sacrifice and bonding with the family. Gowtham Tinnanuri uses cricket as a backdrop, but he focuses more on family bonding which results in human triumph. Nani’s performance, Gowtham Tinnanuri’s direction, engaging screenplay make Jersey a must watch!
